Challenges are oftentimes unexpected and seem to just “land” in our laps. “What the heck do I do now?” “What did I do to deserve this?” Challenges can be water damage to your laptop, costing you an unexpected $800 (which you don’t have) or being diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer. With every challenge, there is an opportunity for growth, an opportunity to take stock of what is truly important to you, and to make change.

It’s very easy to move through life as a victim of circumstances. Feeling out of control and knocked to the mat. We’ve heard people say, “No one promised life would be easy.” No, life is not easy, but rather than feeling “put upon”, we can approach each circumstance, looking for a bigger meaning. Asking, what is the lesson here for me? Where can I improve or do better? What am I resisting?

Is there room for humor? Always. Can you step back, look at your life, like a movie, and find the irony, the “crazy”? Many times, the movie that is our lives is way too dramatic. Do you get that? Like exhausting. Lighten up. Find some levity. Be able to laugh at yourself.

A challenge presents an opportunity to share yourself with others. Reaching out to others for support and another perspective can make a load of difference.

Remember, “This too shall pass.” It will. One day you will look back and the details will be blurred. So, in the moment, focus on what IS good, what can you are grateful for, what is within your control, and where there is an opportunity to change for the better.
