After taking some time off to contemplate our future, the NorthStar Network is back. We are now NSnewstv.com - a different name but the same commitment to informing Black America.
While we were offline we received thousands of inquiries from loyal readers who were puzzled why we took the original site down. The answer is, we felt we could offer you a better experience on the web and stay true to our intention to provide you with quality news and public affairs content over the Internet. So when we assessed our progress after almost three years in operation we decided it was time to go back to the drawing board. Despite many accolades we felt we could re-imagine NorthStar to make it a web destination better positioned to advance the interests of the Black community by transforming it into a dynamic news portal offering video and audio streaming and written content. All the while keeping our focus on the issues that matter most to the Diaspora.
New features include the NorthStar Business and Technology Reports, two audio reports focused on developments in the business sector and emerging issues in the technology world. The site also features the NorthStar Corporate Index, a live stock ticker of publicly traded companies that produce goods and products or offer services in demand by Black consumers. A simple click of a company’s ticker symbol will bring you to its latest trading information. We are also pleased to offer “Soul Beginnings,” an audio podcast feature that offers a nostalgic view of important periods in Black history framed by the music of the day, hosted by legendary New York radio newsman Bob Slade. And “The Field Report” is a new video report hosted by Executive Editor Walter Fields that will provide an overview of the latest political developments in the nation and world.
During our time away a lot has transpired on the domestic front and in the international arena. Still, despite a whirlwind of activity, the global picture remains murky for Blacks in this nation and overseas. A war that NorthStar took an early editorial position against in the months leading up to the U.S. invasion of Iraq is spiraling out of control. And many of the points we raised and the warnings we issued over what we perceived to be an act of aggression by our government have sadly been proven true. And as we chronicled the presidential election of 2004 as credentialed media at both the Democrat and Republican conventions, the concerns we raised about the Bush administration now seem like a premonition. We could not have returned at a more appropriate time.
Our pledge to you is to honor the tradition and legacy of the newspaper from which we inherited our name – The North Star - and to remain fiercely independent, objective, uncompromised, focused and fearless in our reporting. We hope you will find the new NorthStar to your liking.
