If your child is connected to a school by a sibling or alum, then you are eligible for the Early Notification Program. Not all schools offer Early Notification, but if they do, eligible families are notified earlier than other applicants, giving them the opportunity, if accepted, to withdraw their applications from other schools. Early Notification helps to promote a sense of community and assist attending families.

Some of the schools that still offer Early Notification are The Brearley School ( and St. Luke’s School

The Brearley School is an upper eastside, all girls school, from Kindergarten to 12th grade. Stephanie J. Hull is the Head of School. Uniforms are required in the lower and middle school, with a total enrollment of about 680.

At The Brearley School sibling and legacy parents are encouraged to contact the Office of Admission in the spring or in early September of the year before potential matriculation. Spring tours and parent interviews are available for these families. Additionally, a sibling or legacy family may opt for Early Notification, which requires submission of the application by October 1, and completion of the entire application file by December 1. A legacy candidate is a child whose mother attended the Brearley School.

St. Luke’s School is a Kindergarten through 8th grade, coed, Episcopal day school, located in the West Village, on Hudson Street. There are approximately 205 students at St. Luke’s School. You can download the admissions application from their website.

St. Luke’s offers an early notification policy to siblings, children of alumni, children of faculty and staff, and children of parishioners. They adhere to the early notification program established by the Independent School Admissions Association of Greater New York (
