Controversy is still swirling around the Democratic leadership’s insertion of language in the party platform yesterday that affirms the party’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. It was a boneheaded move on the part of party leaders, and was not well received by many delegates on the convention floor who voiced their displeasure. Coming as an aside, it smacked of the old switcheroo, an attempt to appease a faction of the party but ignoring the sensitivity of the Middle East question; particularly within the Arab and Islamic communities in the United States and abroad. While the DNC claims the move was in concert with the sentiments of President Obama, the move tainted an otherwise remarkable night for the party.
